NYABIHU DISTRICT HOSTS DELEGATION FROM LIBERIA

Today, Nyabihu District received a delegation led by Hon. Whroway Bryant, Superintendent Montserrado County, Liberia, for an experience-sharing visit aimed at exchanging best practices in governance and the implementation of government programmes.

The delegation was received by Mr. Habanabakize Jean Claude, Deputy Mayor in charge of Economic Development, accompanied by Mr. Twagirayezu Jean Paul, the Corporate Sevices and Division Manager, and other district officials.

During the discussions, the delegation was briefed on Nyabihu District’s experience in decentralised governance and citizen-centred service delivery, performance contracts (Imihigo), revenue collection, public participation in planning and the implementation of development initiatives, as well as other government programmes. The delegation members also had the opportunity to ask questions to gain a deeper understanding of how these programmes are implemented. Their questions were addressed through constructive discussions and the exchange of knowledge and ideas.

Following the discussions, the delegation, accompanied by the Deputy Mayor in charge of Economic Development, representatives of security organs and other district officials, visited Kora Market in Bigogwe Sector. During the visit, the delegation interacted with traders and revenue collection officers to learn about the mechanisms used to collect taxes and fees and how the revenue generated contributes to local development and the socio-economic well-being of residents.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity for both parties to share experiences, particularly in the areas of good governance, revenue mobilisation and the effective use of public revenue for the benefit of citizens. It also marked an important step towards strengthening cooperation and knowledge exchange on how local government institutions can improve service delivery and enhance the implementation of development programmes.
